Speech Language Pathologists identify cognitive levels and collaborate with team members to enhance safe ability to function in the least restrictive environment possible. Individualized care plans incorporate instruction and training in:
• Awareness and response to various stimuli, environments and daily tasks
• Comprehension of verbal, non-verbal and written language, symbols, gestures and/or communication contexts
• Ability to express needs, thoughts, feelings, emotions and opinions through verbal and/or non-verbal methods
• Problem solving, orientation, memory, attention, planning and organization
• Use of specialized equipment such as augmentative devices, speaking valves and/or auditory/visual aids
• Oral and pharyngeal muscle strength, activity tolerance, tone and coordination
• Swallow maneuvers and techniques
