The licensed incumbent in this position serves as Drug/Alcohol Counselor, who is part of the multi-disciplinary treatment team within the Fort Thompson Indian Health Service (FTIHS). The FTIHS utilizes an eclectic counseling approach relying strongly on a traditional Native American component and multi-disciplinary team input. The purpose of this position is to provide, assessments and evaluations, counseling, and assistance to individuals and families in dealing with alcohol and other drug abuse and related problems.
The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3.
